Description

This Peacock Archaeology Barrette, one of the” ancient ties” barrettes series, features a motif originally found on a pottery shard discovered in Israel.

Fashioned from hardwoods by Etz-Ron, these hair  barrettes are decorated with designs patterned after those found on pottery of the Canaanite, Egyptian and Philistine peoples from before the period of the exodus through the period of the Israelite kings. Typical motifs found on the pottery were fish and birds looking back (Philistine), birds and palm, ibex and palm (Canaanite) and geometric patterns.

This Archaeology Barrette is part of the “Ancient Ties” barrette series, and  found on a pottery shards in the archaeology excavations at Megiddo and Lachish in Israel.

Hair combs, hair slides  and hair ornaments have been found in archaeological sites in Israel dating from as early as 12,000 years ago, made from shell, bone, and wood.

The hair  barrettes are made from a variety of light colored hard woods such as maple, beech, cherry and more. The metal barrette fastening on the back side is screwed into the wood. Please contact me  if you have a wood preference.

The designs have been silk screened onto the wood and then finished with polyurethane.

Dimensions: 3.75″ x .82″ x .6 Th “(9.5 x 2 x 1.5 Th cm) including barrette back.
